'Liar's Dice' selected as India's entry for Oscar

Actress turned Director Geethu Mohandas road drama "Liar's Dice" starring acclaimed actors Geetanjali Thapa and Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been selected to compete in the Oscars for best foreign film category. 'Liar's Dice' was the unanimous choice of the 12-member jury headed by eminent filmmaker T. Hariharan, from over 30 entries. The other films in the fray were Shahid, Queen, Mary Kom,  Mardaani,  2 States, Fandry, Yellow etc.

Geethu Mohandas made her debut as feature film director with 'Liar's Dice'.  The movie had also won the best cinematography honour for Rajeev Ravi, Geethu’s husband, and best actress title for Geetanjali at the 61st National Film Awards.  The film set in a village in Himachal Pradesh near the Indo-Tibetan border deals with the issue of the human cost of migration to cities. The road movie goes through the story of a young mother living in the remote village, whose husband goes missing after having left to work many months ago. On the way, she meets an Army deserter, who decides to accompany them to their destination.
